Willem was born in the Netherlands on the 27th of march1988. He started taking drum and percussion lessons at the age of nine. After graduating from high school he was immediately admitted to the Jazz Department and the Music Teacher Department of the Tilburg Conservatory. Willem decided to do the 4-year Music Teacher course for a broader starting point of the knowledge of music. During his study he continued to develop his passion for drumming. He got drum lessons from Hans van Oosterhout, Frans van Grinsven, and Hans Raaijmakers..
During the summer of 2010 there was a fantastic periode for Willem. He graduated of is Music Teaching departed, where his drumexam was rated by a A+! Besides that he won the “Jacques de Leeuw” award; an onhourfull award that’s reached every year to the most promised art-teacher. Willem did entrance exam and passed to the Jazz Drum education on the Conservatoriy of Amsterdam.
On the moment he studies with Martijn Vink, Marcel Serierse, Lucas van Merwijk and Bart Fermie. Besides the individual lessons and extra master classes from Peter Erskine, John Riley and John Engels, Willem has already played in quite a few pop, funk, fusion, latin, jazz, vocal-jazz, and big band ensembles and has worked with Randall Corsen, Frans van der Hoeven, Yuri Honing, Udo Pannekeet, Yaniv Nachum and Rembrand Frerichs.Throughout the years Willem has had the privilege to play with a great variety of artists who have given him an all-round musical background. At this moment Willem is playing in the adventurous jazz/soul/R&B quartet named Melphi (www.melphimusic.com), iplays in the new Dutch popband Voluit! (www.bandvoluit.com), and plays frequently in the band of Frans Bauer (www.hollandshowband.nl). Willem hopes to grow in en enjoying of music for a very long time.
